I hate to be the unfriendly, cynical bastard, but... "freeware" on my computer from a person who first registered today and has made one post? Ummm, maybe I'll let someone else try it, first.

I use the App "Stone of tomorrow" for Android and it is really good.

FYI, the same sequence of events is occurring on Jordi Fabre's site. The new poster offers the same free program, to promptly be followed up by a concerned responder. A site manager on that web site unloaded the program and found it to be legitimate, virus free, but have a few problems due to language and software differences. Before others download it, this all probably should be independently verified by someone on this web site. CHEERS.....BOB

I registered with the specific purpose to share the program and find out opinions about the program. For mineralogy interests, I mostly spend time on mineralforum.ru )

Does this database have a means to be converted into an Excel file or CSV file? And conversely, can an Excel file, or a CSV file be uploaded to this database?

I ask as I am about to start selling off a large hunk of my collection to reduce duplicates and raise some money for prospecting supplies (and an ATV!!). And I need something that is easier to access information than using my Excel file.. Most of my collection was saved on an Excel file that has exceeded 2 GB and is very unstable at the moment and takes forever to load and save (each specimen has min 2 images in the DB)... But the image free version is much, much smaller, and that is the one I'd like to convert to a better database program...

I simply use Excel. It works fine, it is searchable, and expandable. I started to use Mindat but I find it a little cumbersome and since Mindat, by its own admission, may not be around forever I opted to go back to Excel. I don't use photos in my catalog as I find they add nothing. Instead I bought a remote hard drive dedicated to those catalog photos in case someone needs to see a photo of a specimen.

Since I don't use my phone for anything except a phone. I have little use for something like this.

Just my 2 cents.

Does not work with csv and Excel. It is a good idea to add possibility to import/export csv and I will imlement it. Probably with Excel too some time, with Excel there`s inconveniance that proper data access drivers must be installed, and they may be missing on particular computer. Csv requires no drivers, which is good.

Note that as I run Mac I am unable to validate this software - so as always be careful of using any new software on your computer that you don't trust.

I first made it to work with Access. But for Access the proper version of MS Office data access components is required, which may be missing on a particular machine. I then used tiny database engine SQLite which is small and can work without installation. It still can work with Access and various other SQL databases.
