Remove photo

is it possible to remove most of my photos of the database. Lot of them are not essential for your base (anyway they are mine).

I was told that my pictures are signed they are not often selected for POTD. In fact, I would remove much of them. Emulation is now limited, I will focus on other websites.

If my photos are not acceptable to be selected, they shouldn't be in the database. I can't participate in a selection where the chances are unequal. :-(

Some are often choose, me never..... In fact, now i understand but if I knew that I wouldn't put these photos

thank you

Huh ?

IN this example we can seen than my photo is with a description.... And it seems the reason (with the copyright signature too) than my photo are not selected for POTD.

In this case, i would removed all my photo....

Selection are unequal and it's not for me....

That's all.

Maybe if you posted the photo's the way mindat has set up, they might choose your photo's.
Besides, it isn't a contest to see if your pic makes the POTD,, it's about sharing knowldge !
Dan R. Lynch December 04, 2011 07:39PM
I don't think that having a description and copyright information at the bottom of each of your photos makes you ineligible for POTD. I'm not entirely sure how the selection process works, but I'm sure that your chances are not "unequal" from everyone else's. If you still want your photos removed, that's your right to do so, but many of your photos are wonderful and benefit the website.

It doesn't mean "it's equal" for that' s really equal. In the past year, I was never selected. I asked the reason and i understand (read me). My photos are not, in fact, selectable.

I understand this choice. My photos are not in the mold.

"sharing knowldge " okay for me but it' s not so easy !!! Emulation is interessant.... And with my website, it's done. I participate on others website too. POTD allows recognition of the work. It's not the case now...

So thank you to respect my request.

Frederic, I added about 2000 pics on mindat and got poorly POTD.
But I don`t care at all, in fact I started to evaluate my newest pics with 0 (zero, the default). Maybe an admin here can set ALL of them to zero? Why I don`t care for any POTD, its absolutely NOT my goal. In my opinion POTD should be given more to newcommers and beginners as an first recognition. Frederic, you are deffo no beginner!

I share my pics with all mindaters to show the beauty of micros. Most localities that I add my pics don`t have many pics, some of them not even one. So my goal is to add info here in this great database. I`m sure that some aren`t interested at all in my pics, but I know also for sure that others are.

So why POTD, I don`t need any. I get my feedback also without them ;-)
I`m glad when you like them, thats reward enough.

I enjoy both of your photos! And before you posted this topic, Frédéric, I spent at least a minute looking at that beautiful quartz with included hematite and rutile. Todays POTD i just spent a couple of seconds on (not that it was bad!).

I would be sorry if you stoped posting your pictures here, Frédéric. I would realy miss them!

(And a thanks for sharing all the both beautiful and ugly micros from Austria, Chris!)

Hi christian,

Yes it's not my first objective but i couldn't understand why i was never choose. Now i know ! Signature = No POTD....

Okay i can make this effort (i just built 3 photo, original, one for my website and one for mindat !).....

Discussion is done in MP.... in fact.

And Chris if it's not an objective.... It's important for recognition of my working.

I'm sorry you are unhappy that your photos are not selected for Photo of the Day.

Photos that have frames/borders and text on them do not look good when made smaller for the image on the front page so we do not select these - this is a shame because your photos are very good, and if you were to upload some without the frame and text I am sure they would be selected for the front page.

However, I do not think you should upload photos ONLY because you want them to be seen on the front page. For most people, the reason to upload photos is to contribute towards a reference database that is used by hundreds of thousands of poeple.

I would be very sad if you stop uploading photos to, we do appreciate your contributions.

I cannot add to the reasons why people contribute to the project, but can say that your photos are no less appreciated the world over because they were not selected as POTD. Your photography is outstanding and the span of mineral photos of so many localities have added greatly to the database. As a contributor, I share the same sentiments that Harjo Neutkens stated on the "Questions Au Sujet de 'POTD' " thread:
"J'espere que tu va continuer sur Mindat, tes photos sont tres appriciee ici, aussi par les membres du management."

Please reconsider.

I'm waiting for see. Now i'll post without signature. But even if i'm happy to built a database with all, it's impossible to ignore than some are often POTD with basic photo and others with nothing. Equality between all isn't easy but no selection, never, was for me a shame. I'm patient.... I'll give an other year for see.

POTD is a recognition (honorific) for quality of some photographs. Without this (small) reward sometimes a taste of injustice appears.

Thanks for all people who like my photo. I work hard to built them.

Jenna Mast December 05, 2011 08:59AM

Just because a photo isn't selected for POTD doesn't mean others never look at it or find it interesting. Mindat has many tens of thousands of photos, and some may never be selected despite their excellence, simply due to the sheer volume of photos there are.

None of my photos have ever made POTD, but some of them have still been viewed a few hundred times. Though my intentions for them were simply to serve educational purposes.

I understand perfectly this....

POTD are not just for the best photo, it's an evidence..... But diversity are not respected beacause some "middle" photo come back for some but not for all.... And for my case, i'm never selected like others photographs of same level.

My english is not enough well for express all my my thoughts. But in France I am not loved by all. Take good pictures bring some jealousy. I don't want to ostracism for me or for others. Just equality.

Please don't deny problems. Some photos are selected we do not know why, when others are systematically set aside. Reasons have been done for me, I'll see if that is true in the future.

I understand than all photo can't be choose even of quality is high... But never...

Okay, i want believe in mindat.... I continue for one year my work.

Harjo Neutkens December 05, 2011 10:32AM
Salut Fred,

I'm glad you want to continue uploading photos, we think they're very good.
The choice for POTD is being made by every manager individually, no set of parameters, hardly any rules.
Some managers like technically well made and aesthetic photos, others like pegmatite minerals or rare ugly rocks, or English Liroconites for that matter ;-)
I think the balance is good in the management, so we get all kinds of POTDs; rare minerals, museum specimens, beautiful micro photos, locality photos, SEM pics etc. Without the copyright text and frames your photos will definitely become POTD, because we like them :-)

Ralph Bottrill December 05, 2011 11:23AM
We all have different tastes, but I think we would all agree your photos are amongst the best, and would be very sad to see any removed. I have regularly selected your photos as POTD before I realized they were I eligible.

Adam Berluti December 05, 2011 02:24PM
You have had 10 photos selected for POTD
Account Closed December 05, 2011 03:13PM
Thanks Ralph. And Adam it was the past, for the moment it's never..... The problem is resolved, it seems (signature or border). Please too, dont' choose by nationality, just photo than you like.
