GeneralCreate an unknown species to a locality

11th Jan 2018 12:38 UTCChristian Auer 🌟 Expert

Just updated the locality https://www.mindat.org/loc-58742.html with all described PGM minerals, at least those that are known. Several were not further analysed but a Ni-Cu-Fe-Ir-Rh-sulfide is mentioned as unknown. Can someone add this species to the locality please, thanks.

Here is the online reference (see table at p.40):

I do wonder if there would be any mileage in Jolyon adding a couple of meta-minerals to the site - 'Unknown Phase #' and 'Unnamed Phase #' (where # is a sequence number for each unknown) or similar - which would act as placeholders for new minerals in a location - and where the supposed mineral details are only described locally (i.e. on the locality page).

These could be replaced by formal mineral species names and data (or discreditation) at a later date as new species/phases are dealt with by the IMA.

Great idea if this could be possible!

Brilliant. Now, how to add unnamed or uncertain minerals to the database .... hmmm ....

You have to ask a manager or another person who has editing status for the mineral database.
