GeneralOld Collection

Have obtained large Feldspar from collection of William Daniel Henry (deceased), who lived and collected in vicinity of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Does anyone know anything about this gentleman? Suspect that Don Saathoff might know of this family. Decedents are currently living in Port Neches, Texas.

Clyde, I'm sorry to say I did not know the gentleman. Cookie & I moved here in '95 and there was always talk of this person or that person being a rockhound or dealer living in or near Organ but it seems no-one could remember a name. I'll quiz a couple "old-timers" in the area. Is there a particular bit of data you're looking for?

Don, Thanks for the reply. Yes, there is a reason. The mama, Clara Henry (maiden name Patty), died earlier this year and the family's HUGE collection of Deming (or thereabouts) material is finally being sold. Clara was born in Carrizozo, New Mexico in 1920. One of the pieces is a spectacular microcline feldspar. Steve Blyskal might post a picture of the thing this evening. I'd like to establish some provenance for the collection, so some future owner can say something like " collected by the Las Cruces Henry Family in 1940's".

Hello Clyde,

So far none of the people I've spoken with are familiar with the name. Two of those have been collecting the area for several decades. I've got one last person to try and then I'll have to give up. I haven't seen Steve Blyskal's photo yet - have you looked at any images of the orthoclase specimens on Mindat from Rock Springs Canyon in the Organ Mts., Organ District? They can be quite spectacular - especially when associated with white albite!
