Techniques for CollectorsAny micromount specific events happening around the September Denver mineral show?

29th Jun 2017 22:17 UTCMark Andrews

Howdy Everyone,

I am planning my first trip to the big Denver mineral show this September. I believe the show runs from September 9th to the 17th.

I have looked around and I can't find any listings for micromount specific events surrounding the show. But I wanted to ask to make sure.

Also, if there are any micromounters who will be going to the show, I would enjoy meeting up and saying hello.

Finally, if anyone knows a good micro-mineral collecting locality within a few hours drive of Denver, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Mark

Check out the Rocky Mountain Micromineral Association website, and maybe contact some of their leaders for info. Have fun, Tom

Will do! I'm pulling up their web site now. Thank you for the information Tom.

Since you listed the show as covering the 9th to the 17th, anyone who is here that early can attend the Rocky Mountain Micromineral Association meeting on September 10, 2017 2pm to about 4pm, at the Colorado School of Mines Mineral Museum. The "Under your Scope" portion of the meeting is Gold, Silver and related minerals from the museum's micromount collections for your viewing. For anyone flying in, we have loaner microscopes and lights for you to use at the meeting, so you don't have to bring yours if you don't want. For driving directions to the museum go to http://rocky-mountain-micromineral-association.com/next_meeting . The meeting is in the room across the hall from the Museum Entrance. Parking is free on Sundays, (but if you visit the museum during the week, you will have to pay for a parking pass).

Just wanted to say thanks to Joe Taggart and the rest of the people at the Rocky Mountain Micromineral Association. It was great meeting all of you. I had a very enjoyable time attending their September meeting. It was a real luxury to have a loaner microscope and a bunch of high quality crystallized gold micromounts to look at and discuss.

Also, thanks to Michael Gobla for trading minerals with me.

I hope my trip back to Colorado next year will coincide with one of your meetings.
