EducationFinding An Old Prospect Site

1st Dec 2017 20:59 UTCRyan Klockner

A friend of mine has a large piece of land outside of Nashville, TN. His great grandpa used to head into the woods (early 1900s), be gone for "awhile", then come back with Galena that he would sell. They aren't sure where he found it and don't have any clues to go on.

We are going to attempt to find it (and hope there are other minerals associated with the Galena) this weekend and I am hoping that before we go I get a response to this post with some tips on spotting a prospect site that hasn't been worked in 100 years. I'm hoping we find unnatural piles where he discarded material, but it sounds like he was paranoid and would take different routes to get there to make it difficult for someone to find his trail, so I'm thinking he may have tried to hide his activity.

Any tips would be appreciated!

FYI - We have reviewed a topographical map and have some ideas, but I don't know what we are looking for.
