As of today, the showcased Canadian collections are from: Royal Ontario Museum, The University of Waterloo, The Bancroft, Ontario Mineral Museum. I do believe we also have representation from the Mineralogical Association of Canada. By the way, you should go to www.mineralogicalassociation.ca/poster to obtain an absolutely beautiful poster entitled "Minerals of Canada"! It is bilingual and explains several properties of minerals.

All of our museums and dealers are aware of the Canadian Theme this year and are incorporating and competing using this theme. Other museums are: The Smithsonian Institute, A. E. Seaman Museum, The Carnegie Institute, The University of Toledo, The University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Cincinnati Museum, Tellus Science Museum, and Cranbrook Institute of Science. I have attached an updated list of dealers.

Best show in the area, I highly recommend visiting if you're within reasonable driving distance. Minerals, fossils, cutting rough, in all price ranges, plus enough displays to keep you busy for an hour or more. Love the Canuckistan theme, can't wait!

I am really looking forward to this year's theme! I am there every year and wouldn't miss it. I wasn't feeling well and didn't get a show report out for the 2011show, but I will definitely try to do so for the 2012 show.

You'll see my name on the dealer list for the show this year, but I really want to emphasize the University of Michigan display. U of M has a large mineral collection which has been largely in storage since the 1950's. All this year, I have been taking a suite of specimens from Michigan's copper country to display at shows. These specimens will be on display at Detroit this year, and are well worth seeing!

I have to second what Chris said. I got to see those coppers in Tucson, it was incredible. Two in particular made my jaw drop (from Chris's photos):

And in person it's even more crazy.....

He is doing a really great thing by allowing these pieces to be appreciated by so many people... they had just been in storage for decades, and would have probably been bought for pennies on the dollar by some dealer or another, and then just have disappeared.

For the last few years at this show, the Cranbrook Institute of Science has been giving away free passes to get into their museum. Hopefully they'll do so again this year. If they do, you can get the free passes where you pay for the show's entry fee.

The Cranbrook mineral collection is always worth seeing and they allow photography of their mineral specimens (I asked when I went last Fall). They also have numerous artifacts on display including an entire wall of stone arrowheads.

The Cranbrook Institute of Science is located at 39221 Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and their website address is http://science.cranbrook.edu/

We will most definitely have fun Paul! Sorry you can't make it.

I am planning to be there at least Saturday, earlier in the day so I can participate in the Carnegie silent auction (I think it usually ends around 2pm). If all goes well, I may be there on Sunday as well, but I am still unsure about that.

I plan on hanging around Chris a bit and bugging him, if he doesn't mind. :-) That is, once I take in the display cases (can't wait to see that case of coppers he is bringing) and do a walkthrough.

Just thought I'd add some extra information about this year's show.

We are really excited to have Dr. George Robinson, the curator of the A.E. Seaman Museum located in Houghton, MI. This is the official mineral museum of Michigan. Prior to this employment, he was with the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa.

He will be available for at various times or book signings of his new book: The A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum: It's History and Collection.
