Improving Mindat.orgUnnamed U-minerals

Hi all,

After research on uranium minerals I found that the following species names were named by the IMA. Below the list of these species with the nomenclature by IMA :

Unnamed (Basic Pb-U Carbonate) from Loe Warren Zawn = UM1995-// - CO-PbU (Invalid);

Unnamed (Ca-REE-U Carbonate Hydrate) from Loe Warren Zawn = UM1995-// - CO-CaHREEEU (Invalid);

Unnamed (Na-Mg-U Borate-Sulphate I) from Schildmauer = UM1976-05 - BO-HMgNaSU (Valid);

Unnamed (Na-Mg-U Borate-Sulphate II) from Schildmauer = UM1976-06 - BO-HMgNaSU (Valid);

Unnamed (Na-Mg-U Borate-Sulphate III) from Schildmauer = UM1976-07 - BO-HMgNaSU (Valid);

Unnamed (Pb-U Sulphate) from Jachymov = probably UM1997-48 - SO-HPbU (Valid);

Unnamed (Pb-U Hydrous Oxide) from Jachymov & Zálesí = UM2006-//-O:HPbU appears to be same as UM1997-35-O:HPbU and similar to masuyite (Invalid);

Unnamed (Pb-U-Al Phosphate) from Les Montmins = UM2000-// - PO-AlPbU (Invalid).

Thanks for bring our attention to these.

The mineralpages of the 2 UM from Loe Warren Zawn and the 3 UM from Schildmauer is now updated.

The "Unnamed (Pb-U Sulphate) from Jachymov = probably UM1997-48 - SO-HPbU (Valid)" is probably something with a similar composition to Renardite or Dewindtite. Just like Torbernite is similar to Sengierite, as they both carry the Copper Uranyl .... and they both have a similar tabular composition (habit), the only difference is that Torbernite has Phosphate as the "binder" (as I like to call it - the element which holds the mineral together) and Sengierite has Vanadium as the "binder", but they both are green and tabular in habit/form.

So something with an acicular habit maybe and a yellow colour for the "Unnamed (Pb-U Sulphate) from Jachymov". The only problem is (from what I know) Dewindtite isn't commonly found at Jachymov.

But the "UM....." names are the only ones recognized by the IMA and should be on the top of web page.

It is not right to keep "Unnamed ...." on the top of the webpage and UM ... as synonymous.

The opposite is correct.

Would you please note :

UM 1960-04-O : HU from El Sherana Mine in the South Alligator River Area, Northern Territory, Australia = Heisenbergite;

UM 1997-36-O : HU from Jachymov = Heisenbergite.

Indications from :

Heisenbergite, a new uranium mineral from the uranium deposit of Menzenschwand in the Southern Black Forest, Germany

Kurt Walenta and Thomas Theye;

N. Jb. Miner. Abh. 189/2,117-123

For UM1997-48 - SO-HPbU, if you read the text in Journal of the Czech Geological Society, 42/4 (1997) P. 103, we speaking about an unnamed SULFATE with major elements : U, Pb & S... This species is an hydrated uranyl lead sulphate with distinct X-ray powder diffraction pattern

So It's impossible to have a similarity with renardite or dewindtite (wich are phosphates) !!!

Yes, Luc ,

when i first entered the changes the UM's come out as synonym to the Unnamed.. , which was, as you pointed out, of course wrong. It' s corrected now.

The two "species" are identical to Heisenbergite (see above)
