Improving Mindat.orgAtacamite?

3rd Jul 2012 07:07 UTCMark Willoughby Expert

Howdy All,

I am rather unsure as to whether the following photo is atacamite, 113953 (and child photo 113954).

Broken Hill atacamite is quite rare and known to be dark emerald green, usually associated with cerussite, malachite and cuprite.

This looks more like malachite. If it is atacamite, I would seriously question the locality.

I agree Mark, I think that it most likely malachite. I have seen similar tufts and clusters of malachite from Kintore, with the same matrix. If it is atacamite, it is not from Broken Hill but could be from the district - Mutoroo perhaps.

I would agree with malachite, but question the locality

Hi

If it is Ataamite - the association doesn't look like Broken Hill material I have seen - possibly Kadina South Australia or even one of the mines in Queensland

Cheers
