Improving Mindat.orgBug uploading photos

Hi.

Since a while, I experience a bug uploading photos...

I use tab browser, so I can upload several photos of a same locality. So I can fill the different fields of a photo while the next one is uploading.

When I so uploaded a few ones, I can copy-paste the caption, edit it as needed then submit.

Since few week, when I submit, after a while photos won't display. the "timer" turns forever in the tab, then nothing happends (I've once tried to wait for 10 minutes), server doesn't respond. I have to restart the browser. (server is usually slow to respond anyway, even when it works fine)

After restarting the browser, the photos doesn't display in the "new photo today" gallery, nor on my photos gallery. I have to re upload them.

But when I re-upload, they appears twice ! (wich should be impossible, as you get an alert message if you try to upload a photo already on the site)

Duplicate photos in the galleries display with a view count = 0

Firefox 50.1.0 on Windows 7 x-64 integrale - SP1 (bug started with an older version of firefox, wich had been updated since but it didn't fix the problem). I'm not sure the problem is on my system anyway, as the server shouldn't accept the same image twice.

Had the bug again today... and I only uploaded 2 photos !

Conichalcite didn't display, even after clearing all locality caches. so I re-uploaded it.

a while after (maybe 10 minutes ?), there still was only one image. But 2 hours after the server displayed both images.

Notice that the photo id 792281 has a view count of 3, and photo id 792282 a view count of 0 : so the server considers that the initial upload (that had the bug, and has not been viewed yet) is more recent than the one I did after restarting my browser.

Definitively a server problem, so....

I have had the same issue, where the upload thinks about it indefinitely after clicking submit. I wait for five minutes after closing the tab, however the new image still shows in my gallery with no issues.

Same version of Firefox as Pascal, but OS X yosemite.

Hi

I successfully added 33 photos today without any bug, from this locality : http://www.mindat.org/loc-211566.html.

After that, I changed something in the locality page (I added rosasite and marcasite in the mineral list)

Then I added a rosasite photo : http://www.mindat.org/photo-792852.html - And the server crashed (no response)

I noticed that it also gave no response right after every time I cleared a cache.

Pascal, your cerussite shows OK, but the synchysite does not, and is not even listed for that location, so it may need a reference to validate it irst?

That's not my photos.... I only wanted to show that I'm not the only one to experience bugs uploading photos.

View count = 0 happends to me when server doesn't display the photo after clicking the "submit" button

Bug is still here !

But today something has changed : uploading photos is far slower !

That's an unresolved bug. It take several minutes to upload, then you get an error message although the upload worked.

This continues to be a problem for me. Whether I am in Firefox or Safari, when I upload a photo, I do not get any indication I successfully uploaded a photo. After several minutes I have to log off the internet to get anywhere. Then when I come back the photo has been uploaded... Well, on edit, it worked OK just now, when I added another photo to an existing upload, so I guess it's an intermittent problem.

I uploaded 14 photos this morning, and I had the bug 4 times !

Could Jolyon have a look at this? as it is unresolved for 3 months now !

Yes, but while uploading the photos, having to reboot the browser, re log-in, re fill the fields at the bottom of the page turns boring, especially when you have to do it again and again.

I am investigating the problem. I am making some major changes to photo upload system so that does make it difficult for me to debug this while the developments are in progress however.

Yes, but the bug is here or almost 4 months now, and it is really boring !

I uploaded 40 photos today, and had to reboot the browser 7 or 8 times. I've also tried with that stupid thing that I call "internet exploser" but I had the bug too.

I'm seriously thinking about stopping contributing uploading photos.

It doesn't appear that this is yet resolved as of today (12, April). I've stopped inputting photos due to the bug. I have 30-50 photos to upload but don't want to go through the constant need to close the browser, re-open browser, login, and navigate to input another photo. I will also wait until the problem is resolved.

I just tested with jpg photos up to 15Mp and didn't encounter any problem.

Upload time was about 14 seconds and submit time was about 16 seconds for a 15Mp jpeg file, which is reasonable.

Until now I haven't had to reboot the browser.

Did you upload raw files or jpeg files?

Mine are .jpg. Perhaps the bug is fixed or perhaps it is time related. I usually input mine in the evenings (PDT) and maybe this is the same time the servers are updating. I will try this morning. Thanks for the update.

IT'S STILL THERE.

I just uploaded a 2.7 Mega and it took 12min 45 sec stopwatch in hand to get kicked off.

It seems that the problem is with Mindat because my PC says " waiting for www.mindat to connect ".

It does not matter as to the time of day and size and file type does not matter. I have been uploading lots of photos over the past several months. Some times all goes smoothly and other times a reboot is required. I have just lived with the issue.
