Improving Mindat.orgYellow uraninite?

12th Jan 2018 23:09 UTCReiner Mielke Expert

https://www.mindat.org/photo-49391.html this is not uraninite.

That is making the assumption that the yellow material in the photo is the uraninite. There is a lot of black material in the photo and without an adequate descriptive text or listing of multiple minerals, one doesn't know what area is supposed to be the uraninite.

It's an old specimen/poor photo and will try obtain a better one tomorrow. Yes, the indication for uraninite is the black material. The locality is https://www.mindat.org/loc-30595.html (Osamu Utsumi mine, Campo do Cercado, Caldas, Poços de Caldas alkaline complex, Minas Gerais, Brazil).

Thanks

Which is one reason why we like to see a brief description of what we can see in the photo, i.e.: which mineral is which etc. This is a never ending issue for us.

I was going to add add a frivolous comment that it was probably "yellow-cake" but decided against it ... but hey.

Cheers

Yes, I agree, I like to see a brief description of what I can see in the photo too... but I did not find it funny.

Cheers

It would be worth while getting the orange mineral analyzed as there is nothing listed there that matches what it looks like. It may be a new species for the locality.

Maybe yes, but doing mineral analysis here is not easy...this yellow material will stay for a next opportunity
