Mineral ExchangesThorikosite for study

14th Sep 2018 11:13 UTCNatale Perchiazzi

Dear All,

I am looking for thorikosite crystals suitable for X-ray single crystal structural study. Good features are transparent clear individuals with dimensions greater than 0.1 mm. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Natale,

I have an unpublished structure refinement of thorikosite (in I4/mmm, R = 4.4%), that strongly suggests that the structure is only pseudotetragonal (+ additional twinning?); unrestrained unit-cell parameters are: 3.90878 3.92637 12.89082 90.032 89.996 89.997. I never tried other space-group symmetries, though.

The flattened crystal morphology also seems to contradict tetragonal symmetry.

Feel free to contact me by email for more details.

Ciao, Uwe
