8GQ-PVRQuartz SiO2

00054640014948663197302.jpg
Copper Bar Mine, Organ Mining District, Organ Mountains, Doña Ana County, New Mexico, USA

Dimensions: 10 mm x 5 mm x 4 mm

old thumbnail: Label says: "210 Quartz, Copper Bar M., Organ, N.M, collected 10/8/36"

It's in orginal cardboard box with professionally printed name: "Charleton A. Siemer, Staten island, NY"

Siemer was associated with the Staten island Institute of Arts and Sciences (called Staten Island Museum), I found out from an pdf'd document from the Mineralogical Association listing every member, and he is listed as a member in a 1938 publication.

T6R-VETQuartz (Var: "Herkimer-style" Quartz) SiO2

07575180014946282344529.jpg
Herkimer County, New York, USA

Field of View: .8 cm
Largest Crystal Size: 3 mm

Herkimer quartz crystals, looks like from a vug. Some are lying horizontally, some are vertically straight up. I can't tell if the vertical ones are doubly terminated. I thought this specimen was interesting since most of the pictures on mindat are of single crystals not in matrix, or single crystals in matrix. This specimen has many tiny crystals crowded together on top of each other. FOV about .8 cm. Whole specimen is about 3 cm long, 1.3 cm wide.
