FY2-LFKCalcite : CaCO3

Eype Beach, Eype, West Dorset, England, UK

Calcite group starting to exhibit 'poker chip' style crystal stacking, on calcite lining a fossilised brachiopod.

F.O.V. 8mm

Photo stacked from 36 shots with Canon EOS 60D using Helicon Focus.

Multiple photos available
Eype Beach, Eype, West Dorset, England, UK

Roughly spherical crystal on calcite lining a hollow fossilised brachiopod shell.

F.O.V. 8mm

Photo stacked from 22 shots with Canon EOS 60D using Helicon Focus.

LVG-R91Baryte : BaSO4

Charmouth Beach, Charmouth, Dorset, England, UK

Single, matrix free baryte crystal from a septarian nodule of Jurassic origin. Surface etching and iron staining due to oxidation of pyrite inclusions. Note the self-repaired crack due to further expansion of the septarian nodule during the crystal formation; this is a fairly common feature in these crystals.

Maximum dimension of crystal is 43mm.

Photo stacked from 20 shots with Canon EOS 60D using Helicon Focus.
