F96-W95Pyromorphite, Quartz

Red Gill Mine, Roughton Gill, Caldbeck, Allerdale, Cumbria, England, UK

Dimensions: 5.9 cm x 9 cm x 2.7 cm

Vein quartz covered with a layer of manganese oxide, possibly coronodite, with a fairly large depression containing numerous sprays of tapering pale yellow to light khaki coloured pyromorphite crystals. Almost certainly collected in the late 1970's.

Prismatic crystals show a whiteish to slightly yellowish colour with distinctly zoned terminations of a greenish to blueish colour which led to the name "greenkop" beryls
