KQX-X33Cassiterite

Multiple photos available
St Agnes, Cornwall, England, UK

Dimensions: 100 mm x 70 mm x 70 mm
Largest Crystal Size: 9 mm

An old time specimen of Cassiterite of the variety termed 'Ruby Tin' owing to its rich red colour. This view was taken in sunlight to show the colour to its best.

Unfortunately it was only identified as coming from St Agnes, however, it is likely to be from the old West Wheal Kitty Mine, which is recorded to have encountered some ruby tin. The matrix is consistent with material I have observed on the dumps in the area around West Wheal Kitty Mine so I am satisfied this is the most likely source for this specimen.
