This ice crystal was part of a cluster of 2-inch interlocking hexagonal crystals that covered my entire lawn. It grew over a week or so before the conditions changed, and it started to warp and melt. It was difficult to photograph, as there was no contrast-everything was transparent or white.

What started as a dazzling frost, coating my yard, grew into (up to ) 2 inch crystals "blossoming off of everything." At first glance out the window, you would think that it snowed a couple inches, but no-it all grew from the ground up! This particular crystal's process took a little over a week, which is the longest I have seen the conditions remain favorable for this type of growth.
