Specimen dump

Halamanning Mine, St Hilary, Cornwall, England, UK

One of the dumps of Halamanning Mine. There are numerous dumps left of this mine, some in a fenced-off area around an old shaft just behind the trees in the background of the picture, and others in the fields all around which are more or less overgrown, but all decent specimens were collected from this dump. Finding something of interest requires prolonged digging, though, because the outer layers have turned into a mixture of sticky clay and small quartz pebbles with blebs of heavily decomposed sulphides.

P Haas photograph, August 2009.
