Moonen Bay; the beach below Waterstein Head

Moonen Bay, Dunvegan, Duirinish, Isle of Skye, Highland, Scotland, UK

The northern end of the beach at Moonen Bay, looking WNW towards Neist Head lighthouse. The approach to the beach from the north involves a scramble down over some loose scree and rockfall material (upper right), requiring a little care, especially when it is wet.

Sgurr nam Boc: the route to the beach for those with vertigo!

Members of the Sussex Mineral & Lapidary Society making their approach to landing on the beach at the base of the cliffs of Sgurr nam Boc; we were lucky to get a break in the stormy weather, allowing a fairly easy landing.

Gem gravel workings on old stream bed at bottom of main pit, exposed by deep (& steep!) excavation through accumulated sediment.

In this view, only the steep slopes of the upper part of the pit can be seen, with Mindat members observing the working area at the bottom of the pit, which is about 15 metres below the sun shelter visible on the far side. (Assumed to be the supervisor's viewpoint?)
