Cerussite in Situ

Stubenriegel, Lanisch, Pölla valley, Hafner group, Hohe Tauern, Carinthia, Austria

You would need several hands for this picture. Two for climbing up, one to set the correct light and one to compare the size.
Its an about fist sized hole and all white needles inside are cerussite xtls.

Powder Keg

Stubenriegel, Lanisch, Pölla valley, Hafner group, Hohe Tauern, Carinthia, Austria

I normally don`t use superlatives too often but this is an outstanding montanhistoric sensation.
A wooden powder keg in situ from around 1770 (!)
A tiny wooden barrel, two cow hornes filled with black powder and a clamp-like claw to clean the hand made hole.
The whole set can be seen (after preparation) in a museum.

Fire Working

Stubenriegel, Lanisch, Pölla valley, Hafner group, Hohe Tauern, Carinthia, Austria

Miners of the 16th century used the method of fire working a lot as you still can find lot of burnt wood inside the mine.
The walls are all black and it has the typical smell.
