Label says spessartine No other information on how this identification was made. Obviously a garnet. Other minerals are quartz and feldspar' Locality is given as "telephone cable trench between S. Main St. and Rt. 196" Purchase date on label was 1988 so it was collected before then. Trench was obviously filled in, so after 40 years locality is gone. Collector unknown.

A glued on hand written label gives locality as Old Leiper's Quarry east side of Crums Creek. Chemical formula indicates label was made either by a mineralogist or someone with a textbook, in my opinion. Collector unknown. From collection of J. Cilen (10,240)

Small spray of millerite from a coal mine in Nanticoke, PA. An unusual occurance. The only sulfides usually found with coal are pyrite and marcasite. From the collection of Alex Knoll. (his #1781). Specimen is in small glass tube, not a micromount box. Picture was taken with a small Celestron digital microscope.

Group of calcite crystals, found loose on quarry floor. Fluorescent orange with 365 nm LED light. Probably from one of the vugs described by Newland in 1913, which made some of the marble unusable.

Baylis quarry dump
Baylis Quarry, Bedford, Westchester County, New York, USADump of Baylis quarry, now overgrown, seen from the road. Private property, obviously no collecting permitted. Consists of large pieces that appear to be mainly pink feldspar, quartz and muscovite. The specimens shown on my page were collected (1963) uphill from this area which was covered by smaller fragments.
