Definition of pyroclastic

Produced by explosive or aerial ejection of ash, volcanic fragments, and glassy material from a volcanic vent. Applied to the rocks and rock layers as well as to the textures so formed. Pyroclastic particles (pyroclasts) form by disintegration of magma, as gases are released by decompression and then ejected from a volcanic vent either in air or beneath water.
