Definition of unidirectional solidification texture

A variety of marginal, banded, often pegmatitic, comb-like to dendritic, structures in the uppermost zone of a granitic pluton, typically with oriented quartz +/- feldspar crystals growing downwards into granitic rocks. Often interlayered with aplitic to porphyritic rocks. Probably of a hybrid igneous/metasomatic origin, at the magmatic-hydrothermal transition.
