Locality type:


A Zn-Cu-Ag-Au-Pb mining district located in secs. 07, 08, 17, 18 & 25, T48N, R12E and in T48N, R11E, NMM, near Cotopaxi, on Bureau of Land Management administered land. NOTE: locational point is near Cotopaxi Mine, which is 0.5 mile NW of the small town of Cotopaxi on the Arkansas River. Two smaller Proterozoic base-metal sulfide occurrences, the Sand Gulch No. 2 and the Carson Mining Company prospect, are located in similar rocks about 3 miles NNE of the Cotopaxi Mine.

Mineralization is hosted in biotite gneiss and skarn (tactite). Controls for ore emplacement included leucocratic lenses within host rock. Local rocks include Granitic rocks of 1700-m.y. age group.
