Maneotis, Spring 2009: Located atop the third ridge peak due south of the canyon on the saddle of the peak, multiple test pits can be found scattered atop the ridge. A primitive 4x4 trail leads off the main county road directly to the mine site. *Advised, this is a very rough road!
From my excavation no native copper or secondary copper and/or associated minerals could be found. Agate and jasper are overly abundant and make up an unknown majority bedrock along with massive limestone and sandstone. Calcite and crystalline quartz have also been collected in this area. No registers for copper, silver or gold were made using 2 seperate metal detectors throughout the area of the pits. Agate and jasper from this locality is amongst the best quality I have seen from Moffat County Colorado.
