Museums in region:


The Tvedestrand area are famous for cordierite and sunstone specimens. Especially known is sunstone (aventurine feldspar) from the classical, now abandoned Østerådalen locality, (often labelled just "Tvedestrand"). This sunstone is by some considered to be the best in the world.

There has also been numerous feldspar/quartz quartz quarries in Tvedestrand, but since they were active during the 1800's, they are overgrown and mostly forgotten.

Map studies have resulted in identify some of them with certainty. Others are impossible to trace or need field confirmation. It turns out to be difficult/impossible to identify some of the localities described in old literature.
That implies that the names given to the localities here at Mindat cannot be fully trusted. Further study is required!
