Underground salt mine previously worked in large part for cattle in the lowland ranches of eastern Bolivia. Now mostly replaced by cheaper surface salt from the Salar de Uyuni. The salt beds here are the largest known underground halite deposits in Bolivia, extending in a 70km long belt extending north and south of town of Entre Rios. Intercalated with gypsum-bearing Triassic Ipaguazu or "Margas multicolores" Formation (multicolored marls). Massive halite rock is coarse grained, recrystallized, compact, ranging from reddish to pink, grey and whitish in color.
