Name(s) in local language(s): Schaumberg, Tholey, St Wendel, Saarland, Deutschland
Tholeiite layer, intruded between clay schists of the Lebach group and sediments of the Tholey group. The vein, dipping at 10° to the northwest, is up to 200 m thick and can be traced over a distance of 10 km. In the vicinity of Schaumberg summit, the rock is strongly differentiated, appearing as trachytic aplite, latite, or basaltic andesite at its base. In the contact zone, the clay schists are locally metamorphosed and carry cordierite, oligoclase and orthopyroxenes.

This is the type locality of the rock tholeiite.
