A major New jersey iron mine in magnetite ore. Located near Dover in Rockaway Twp. Started before 1855. Ore deposit feature was the SE-most vein at 2,700 feet (900 meters) long with ore shoots to 20 feet wide and pinches at only 1 foot wide. Workings featured 3 shafts ( 160 feet, 375 feet and 400 feet deep)(1880) and much deeper later. Exploited a portion of the Mt Pleasant vein. Produced 1,844,769 tons of ore (Jul 1, 1856 to 30 Jun, 1900) plus another 1,000,000 tons to 1910.

Over time the workings covered a significant area along strike. Coordinates given are for the Sweetser shaft, the principal production opening after about 1920.
