Ref.: The Iron Mines of New Jersey (1910), Bayley: 268-269; NJ State Geol. Annual Rpts.: (1854): 37; (1855): 164; (1879): 79-80. An iron prospect in magnetite ore located about 1 mile SE of Sparta on Slack Brook,in Sparta Twp. Started before 1864 and reopened 1873-1875. Ore was irregular deposits 3 to 10 feet wide. Workings were a large open pit ( 50 feet long x 35 feet deep).
