A small bayside settlement in an area with relatively abundant topaz, one of the first known mineral collecting sites in Australia. Samples were distributed worldwide from the early 1800's. The topaz occurs in pegmatitic pockets in the granite, but most is recovered from alluvial deposits on the beach, and sometimes offshore. The crystals can be up to about 10 cm long, with a colourless to pale blue colour.
