Lake Mine, Sterling Lake, Town of Warwick, Orange Co., New York, USA

A former Fe mine in magnetite ore located on the shore of, and under Sterling Lake. One of the Sterling group of mines. Ore body is a 500 foot long outcrop, 5 to 12 feet (1.5 to 4 meters) thick hosted in Pochuck granite. Workings feature a slope 3,800 feet on incline (12º to 25º). Mine levels are up to 1,000 feet across.
