One of the most important mining areas in the Lavrion district.
Plaka was probably the site of the ancient "Laureion" (Kalcyk & Heinrich, 1991).

In the Plaka area, a granodiorite batholith outcrops at the contact of which a skarn mineralisation occurs with magnetite and other minerals.
