Description: Emerald was a synonym for beryl in the 1790s when Vauquelin discovered that they were the same species. The usage of "emerald" continued in the scientific literature even until the 1830s. The cited reference merely copied out of date information. No beryl that would remotely be considered to be emerald has been found in the entire state of Maine, thus far.
