Schetelig (1922) reported a find of gadolinite from Maløen (= Maløya). It may refer to one of three islands: Indre Maløya, Maløya and Ytre Maløya, all small islands off the coast of Grimstad. They are separated by approximately 200 m of sea.
Study of an altitude map and an aerial picture from 1967 reveals at least one feature that with a great degree of certainty represents a quarry in pegmatite. It is located on Ytre Maløya.
The shape is typical of a quarry, while it is at the same time the only place at these two islands where bright white rock is exposed.
The only risk is that this might be a quarry from more recent times.
