Sauer (1982):

"The most famous [rutilated quartz] deposit lies in a small area near Ibitiara, in Bahia. In veins of milky quartz, geodes contain groups of rutilated quartz crystal, frequently in the company of hexagonal slabs of specularite. In this region, eluvial layers also supply excellent specimens. The crystals, often perfect, can exceed several kilogrammes."


Notes on the mineral list:

- Specimens from the InΓΊbia mine (https://www.mindat.org/loc-159264.html) in the municipality of PiatΓ£ were originally labelled as coming from Ibitiara.

- Until the mid 1990s Ibitiara county was big, and both Remedios and Novo Horizonte were districts of Ibitiara. Then there was a vote and 1) Novo Horizonte was split from Ibitiara and became a new county ("municΓ­pio"), and 2) Remedios voted to join Novo Horizonte.

Therefore, the only county that currently produces rutilated quartz and rutile on hematite is Novo Horizonte, and Remedios is just a district of Novo Horizonte.
