Brandberg Mountains


The Brandberg complex is Jurassic-Cretaceous in age, a circular granite pluton 25 km in diameter rising to 2573 m at its highest peak called Königstein. The foothills consist of Damaran granite & sediments, overlain by Karoo sediments and Etendeka volcanics. The granite is mostly alkali amphibole-bearing with very little biotite and tourmaline.


NOTE: This is NOT the famous amethyst locality.
