The merged Sultana-Hopkins Mine (SW SE Sec 3 T46N R29W) was both an underground and open pit mining operation. The bed rock consisted of fold thick bedded chert and jaspilites of the Proterozoic Trommald Formation. Significant manganese mineralization was in nodular zones. Magnetite, hematie, goethite, siderite and iron silicates were noteable in the deposit. Pittsburgh Pacific Company et. al., 1968.
