The main literature reference is Educational Circular No. 2 "Minerals and Gemstones of Nebraska". Bedrock is primarily Cretaceous and younger sedimentary rocks (with some Pennsylvanian & Permian rocks in the southeast). Some material was brought in by glaciers from the north, on the eastern side of the state, and by erosion from Wyoming (also, ash falls from volcanoes to the west).
