Setting:
A small pegmatite dike approximately 1.5 feet thick which strikes north-northwest, and dips southwest, located in the E2SW4SE4 Sec. 5, T13S, R2E, SBM, 7.2 km (4.5 miles) ENE of Ramona. Elevation approx. 2381' AMSL. The deposit is on private land.

History:
The Coyote diggings are located on a small vein-like body exposed along the inside eastern edge of the road cut during preliminary grading of the Sunshine Valley Road route. Upon inspection, several tiny isolated pockets were found in the loose blocks of pegmatite strewn about by the dozer work years earlier, and subsequently exposed by seasonal rains.

Minor hand sampling by the San Diego Mining Company in 1996 yielded several small clay filled pockets in situ; containing thumb sized smoky quartz crystals, and miniature matrices of albite studded with lustrous and well formed gem spessartite garnets averaging 2mm across.

The pegmatite primarily consists of orthoclase, albite, quartz, black tourmaline (schorl), with minor amounts of mica (muscovite), and almandine-spessartine garnets.
