Hercynite and Augite crystals are hosted in a mafic\ultramafic rock belonging to the Ivrea-Verbano Zone (pre-Hercinian basement of the South Alpine realm) but they are in close spatial proximity of the Tectonic contact with the overlying Austro-alpine Nappe called Sesia-Lanzo Zone.

A bit tricky, in such context, may be the origin of vugs where the big and relatively well formed crystals are apparently free standing. A guess could be that later stage Fe-Mg carbonates were filling the vugs, later removed by leaching.
