Location: This prospect is at an elevation of about 2,700 feet on the southeast flank of Lookout Mountain, approximately 0.4 mile south-southeast of the top of the mountain. This site is located in sec. 36, T. 19 S., R. 10 W., of the Fairbanks Meridian. The location is accurate within 1,000 feet. This is locality 13 of Cobb (1978: OFR 78-1062).
Geology: The country rocks in the prospect area are Upper Jurassic to Upper Triassic crystal tuff, argillite, graywacke and chert (Wilson and others, 1998). The strata are intruded by Upper Cretaceous or Lower Tertiary quartz porphyry and felsite. The deposit consists of argentiferous galena and sphalerite along fractures in a shear zone, in pipe breccias, and as disseminations in quartz porphyry. Scattered outcrops suggest that the quartz porphyry and felsite underlie an area about 1200 feet in diameter. Sulfides also are reported in breccia zones both in the intrusive and bedded rocks (Hawley and Clark, 1974). The breccias at Lookout Mountain are similar to those at the Golden Zone mine (HE043), but differ from then in containing more silver, lead, zinc, and tin.
Workings: Limited surface work and sampling has been carried out on this prospect. The area has been covered by regional and detailed geophysical surveys.
Age: Late Cretaceous or younger, assuming that the deposit is related to the quartz porphyry and felsite.
Alteration: Minor sericitic-phyllic reported.
