Zeolites were rarely found in veins crossing altered Eocene basalt in the Rainier Quarry within the town of Rainier, Columbia County, Oregon. The quarry was active in the 1960's and 1970's but was generally not open for collecting minerals. John Cowles (cowlesite), who lived at Rainier, was able to collect in the quarry in 1967, 1969 and 1973 was the source of most of the specimens from this site. Later in the 1990's, after the quarry had been closed for some years, additional specimens were obtained. The quarry is noted for its amber-colored calcite, arched natrolite, and growth hillocks on chabazite. Rudy Tschernich
