Mine de Montredon, Montredon-Labessonié, Réalmont, Tarn, Midi-Pyrénées, France

Abandoned tungsten mine, working ferberite-bearing white quartz veins in tourmalinized schists.

The works started in the early 1950s and the mine was closed in 1961.

About 2000 m of galleries with more than 20 main veins.

The mine yielded about 80,000 tons of ore containing 1.08% WO3 (data after Pierrot et al., 1976).

The crystals have well-defined faces, but are impossible to remove undamaged from the quartz.

In the mid-seventies, some sizeable typical specimens could still be found on "sterile" heaps, all galleries being already flooded.

Located 1 km north of Montredon-Labessonnié and about 12 km SE of Réalmont.
