Quarries located along the Casilina Road (the reported coordinates are referred to the southern quarry) west of Monte Falcone, a small cinder cone of the Pantano Borghese extra-caldera system (Tusculano Artemisio-Monte delle Faete period of activity of the Colli Albani Volcano). The quarries are opened in the Monte Falcone lava flow (287±4 ka; Marra et al., 2003), which lies over the "Villa Senni Eruption Unit" ignimbrites and is characterised by a leucititic composition.

Mineralizations occur in hydrothermal veins and cavities hosted in volcanic rock. The most known mineral is nepheline, which yielded colourless to white to pink hexagonal prisms. Typical associated minerals are fluorapatite, leucite, magnetite, melilite, clinopyroxene, and vonsenite.
