A 115 hectare island where the Rasa Island Phosphate Ore Company mined phosphorite from 1911 to 1945. Mining stopped at the end of WW2 and the island has been uninhabited since then. Claimed by Japan since 1907. Now used by the U.S. Navy as a shooting range and landing is prohibited.
