A copper deposit located near the Mammoth deposit which was discovered by two Afghan cameleers in 1927. Exploration drilling beneath gossan outcrops by Surveys and Mining Pty Ltd in 1969 led to the discovery of the Esperanza deposit. An underground decline was commenced in 1972 to investigate the mineralisation but was abandoned in 1974. Infill resource drilling was carried out in 1996 and 1997 and pre-stripping of an open cut commenced in 1997.
Mining of the Esperanza open cut was completed in November 2005.
