Gold deposit, hosted in sulphide-bearing quartz-muscovite schist of probable Archean to Neoproterozoic age. Mineralization occurs along north-striking reverse faults. The deposit was mined from 1990 to 1998 and produced about 5 tons of gold.
The district of Freire Cardoso was formerly known as Ouro Fino.
