Antigorio Valley is the name given to the segment of the main valley (drained by the River Toce) to the south of Foppiano village, downstream of the confluence with Rio di Cramec, and to the north of the point where Diveria and Isorno streams join the River Toce. The uppermost segment of the main valley is known as Formazza Valley.

Schweizer (1840) described a new mineral on specimens from the Wiser collection and named it antigorite after Valle Antigorio, from where the examined specimens were supposed to come. In fact, Wiser purchased them from a dealing-in-minerals Valaisian peasant, who told him that these specimens had been found in Valle Antigorio. Keusen (1972) and Stalder et al. (1998) argued that the specimens studied by Schweizer must have originated from the Geisspfad ultramafic complex.
