A Tertiary lacutrine formation of significant commercial interest. The clay occurs as <2 micron grains in "Formation Rouge" rock composed of detrital material derived from erosion of Jurassic to Cretaceous marine sediments; primarily marls and mudstones, interbedded with chalky dolomite.
